Building on the success of True Patriot Love’s previous expeditions to the Himalayas (2012), the North Pole (2014), Antarctica (2016), and Best of Canada Series (2017), this expedition will bring together a team of ill and injured Canadian soldiers and Veterans, along with business and community leaders, to take on unique and life-changing challenges together. Working as a team to complete this mission, participants will face physical, emotional, and mental roadblocks throughout the journey. In addition to reaching their physical goal, the summit of Lobuche East, the expedition team will collectively raise critical funds for True Patriot Love – to help support Veterans and their families as they transition to civilian life. Previous expeditions have raised more than $6 million which has allowed for enhanced job training and recruitment, provided 144 Veterans with rapid job placement, helped to fund more than 7,500 hours of peer-to-peer mental health counselling, and allowed for a $500,000 investment to create a virtual reality therapy program for Veterans living with PTSD which is now being used across the country.
The adventure also provides an opportunity for participating soldier team members to face personal challenges on their journey of transition into civilian life. Many soldier team members are dealing with visible and invisible injuries as a result of their service, and this experience will provide them the opportunity to share their stories, bond with other participants, and transition into a fulfilling civilian role following their military service.
